SAN FRANCISCO

I arrived in SF on Thursday and have totally fallen for the place. There is barely a street that I have stumbled across where I have not found a house that I would live in.
I started the tourist bit on Friday and hot footed it to Pier 33 for the trip to Alcatraz only to find out it was sold out until Tuesday. Not a good start considering this was my main, if not only, reason for visiting SF. Anyway, I managed to do a one hour cruise round the bay and under the Golden Gate bridge, which was nice. I then took a dander along the road running along the bay to the bridge. I really fell in love with the Marina area and will defo buy a house there if I win the lottery! I headed up to the Golden Gate bridge, but felt like I was just walking along the Forth Road Bridge so I headed back to Fisherman's Wharf and treated myself to the famous Clam Chowder in a sour dough bread bowl. Yummy!
On Saturday I had a bit of a lie in and headed to the Fisher's Market, which had a great atmosphere. I then headed along Market Street to Union Square and to Macy's, which had an amazing Indian theme going on in the store and Indian dancers outside. I carried on and headed to Alamo Square for the 'postcard photo' then back up through Chinatown.

The Green Tortoise where I am staying is very central and is well worth the money with free breakfast everyday (bagels with cream cheese & honey/peanut butter) and free dinner every other day.
Yesterday I had plannd to go to the Golden Gates park, but after quickly checking the internet I found a trip I could do which included Alcatraz. I hotfooted it back to Pier 33 and managed to get the last combo ticket of the day to Alcatraz & Angel Island. I was quite disappointed with Alcatraz. It has been made too touristy and has no atmosphere at all. Angel Island was nice, although I ended up with a sticky bum after sitting on a tree trunk which must have been oozing sap. I doubt it will ever come out my trousers as I cant even get it off my hands! The whole trip was a rip off really because the Alcatraz boats were by no means full and they just said it was sold out so idiots like me would fork out twice the price to do the combo, which I didnt want to do anyway (tight bitch!)

Back to shore I treated myself to another Clam Chowder bread bowl then headed over to Haight area and Golden Gates Park (no idea why it is called that cos it aint near the bridge and you cant see it from the park!). I was in and out the park within 5 mins after inhaling enough weed to keep me happy for a week. It is just one big hippie hang out joint. Everyone looked the same all dressed in black, with dreads and smoking weed and jumping about to something they might call music but I wouldnt even call a beat! Haight is quite a quirky area with a lot of Tibetan and Indian craft and clothing shops.
Despite my moans I would defo recommend SF over LA or NYC anyday! Amazing!
